Suno defaults to long because your lyrics give it too many sections to fill. A 5-7 minute song is just a 3-minute song with extra verses and double choruses you didn't ask for.
1. Write fewer sections. The biggest lever. Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Bridge-Chorus with an [End] is ~3:30. Every extra verse/chorus pair adds ~60-90 seconds. Count your brackets before generating.
2. Say the length in Style: tight 3-minute radio edit, concise arrangement, no extended outro. Suno does respect length words.
3. End with [End], not [Outro]. [Outro] invites a long fade; [End] stops the song. Pair with [Final chorus, then clean stop].
4. Don't over-Extend. Each Extend adds length. If your base generation is already 3:30, extending makes a 5-minute song. Extend to FIX sections, not to add them.
5. Trim the winner. Got a great 6-minute song? Cut a verse and a chorus repeat in any editor — the best 3:30 is often hiding inside the 6:00. Faster than regenerating.
