That control is Suno's 'how much freedom do I get' dial, and it's the reason your carefully written style keeps coming back as something else.
How it works: turned up, Suno treats your style description as a loose suggestion and improvises — swapping instruments, changing the vibe, adding things you never asked for. Turned down toward exact, it sticks to your words.
What to do:
1. Set it toward Exact / 0 when you want fidelity. If you wrote a detailed style prompt, you want Suno following it, not remixing it. Save the high-variety settings for when you're exploring and want surprises.
2. Repeat your non-negotiables. Even at exact settings, restate the 2-3 things that matter most in the lyrics brackets too, e.g. [same smoky jazz trio throughout]. Redundancy is a feature here.
3. Shorten the style prompt. Long style descriptions get 'interpreted' more. Ten precise words beat forty flowery ones: smoky jazz trio, upright bass, brushed drums, late night — done.
4. If it still rewrites you, generate at exact, pick the closest take, and use Replace Section or Cover to fix only what drifted instead of regenerating and rolling the dice again.
Rule of thumb: exact setting = 'do what I said.' High variety = 'surprise me.' Most frustration comes from having it on surprise-me while writing exact-me prompts.
