What does the Weirdness slider actually do? I move it around and can't tell what changes. What should I set it to?

Suno · Settings - Weirdness slider explained / what should I set it to · Updated 2026-10-22

Weirdness is Suno's 'how experimental should this get' dial. Low = safe, conventional, radio-friendly. High = strange harmonies, odd structures, unexpected choices. Most people leave it in the wrong spot for what they're making.

Where to set it:

  • 10-30%: your daily driver. Faithful, predictable, professional. Set it here for client work, gifts, anything where 'correct' matters.
  • 40-60%: exploration zone. Good when you're hunting for ideas and want Suno to surprise you a little.
  • 70%+: chaos mode. Expect wrong notes, bizarre transitions, occasional genius. Fun, but don't spend important credits here.

Three things people get wrong:

1. High weirdness doesn't mean 'more creative good' — it means more RANDOM. Random is occasionally brilliant and usually unusable.

2. Weirdness amplifies prompt problems. A contradictory prompt at 20% weirdness gives you a mediocre song; at 80% it gives you static or chaos. Fix the prompt first, then play with the slider.

3. It interacts with style-influence. High weirdness + high style-influence = Suno basically improvising freely. If your generations feel out of control, bring BOTH down, not just one.
