The violin in my song is way too loud — it's drowning out the singer. I've tried 'quieter violin' in the prompt and it barely helps. How do I push the violin back and the vocal forward?

Suno · Mix - violin too loud vs vocals · Updated 2026-10-22

'Quieter violin' barely works because Suno hears 'violin' louder than 'quieter.' You need to demote the violin and promote the vocal as two separate instructions.

1. Demote the violin with role words: violin supportive, background strings, gentle — 'supportive' and 'background' are role assignments, and Suno respects roles better than volume words.

2. Promote the vocal in the same prompt: lead vocal forward, upfront, prominent. Say both in one Style: lead vocal upfront and prominent, violin supportive in background.

3. Put it in Exclude too: loud violin, violin solo, overpowering strings.

4. Section brackets for the worst spots: [Chorus: vocal forward, strings soft behind] — targets the exact moments the violin swells.

5. Stems fix (guaranteed): ... > Get Stems, drop the violin stem 3-4dB and nudge the vocal stem up 1-2dB. Two minutes in a free DAW, problem permanently solved. If you love the song otherwise, this beats regenerating every time.

The principle: don't ask for 'quieter X' — assign X a background role and the vocal the lead role.
