Can I actually use my Suno songs commercially — Spotify, YouTube monetization, client work? Who owns the songs?

Suno · Rights - commercial use / do I own my Suno songs · Updated 2026-10-22

The short version: paid subscribers generally own commercial rights to their generations; free-tier users generally don't. But read the current terms yourself — this changes.

1. Check your tier. Suno's terms have consistently said: songs made on a paid plan come with commercial rights; free-plan songs don't (and can't be monetized). If you're releasing music, be on a paid plan. (Verify at suno.com — terms evolve.)

2. 'Own' has limits. You own YOUR song, but Suno's training data means your track might resemble existing music. If a generation sounds like a famous song, don't release it — that's your judgment call, and distributors' content-ID systems will flag soundalikes.

3. For client work: get it in writing. If you make a song for a client, clarify in your agreement that it was AI-assisted and transfer whatever rights your tier gives you. Clients deserve to know.

4. YouTube Content ID: expect claims or holds on AI-generated music sometimes — the systems are twitchy about it. Have your Suno receipt/plan proof handy for disputes.

5. This isn't legal advice. For anything with real money (sync deals, label releases), a 30-minute consult with a music lawyer costs less than one dispute.
